Tallest New Residential Building in Zone 1 ‘Topped Out’

R&F Properties’ One Thames City tower ‘topped out’ at 53 storeys, making it one of the tallest residential developments in the uk.

One Thames City has become the latest development to reach its top as construction continues across the Vauxhall Nine Elms regeneration zone. The tower is the tallest in the One Thames City development, and will hold 298 new homes with the first residents moving into the building in 2022.

Designed by internationally acclaimed architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP and built by JRL/Midgard, the Number 8 building stands 180m tall, making it the tallest new residential building in Zone 1.

‘Topping out’ is an ancient ceremony held when the last beam – or equivalent is placed at the top of a structure. At One Thames City, the topping out was also marked by a fireworks display next to the river.

Since the site’s ground-breaking ceremony in July 2018, the development has created over 450 jobs, with its 12 new buildings set to offer 1,417 new homes, shops, restaurants and over 120,000 sq ft of commercial space. One Thames City is also centred around 2.5 acres of public open space within the Linear Park, offering more green space to the local Vauxhall Nine Elms community.
